Sky Sport Italia reported that Maldini submitted his resignation after the failure to appoint Andrea Pirlo as coach of the Italian national team.
Maldini informed the president of the Italian Federation, Giovanni Malago, of his decision to resign.
Maldini worked in the Italian Federation during the period from July 11 to July 27.
Mancini returns to coaching the Azzurri, which he left in August 2023 to coach the Saudi national team.
