The International Federation of Football denied the circulating news about the possibility of Hossam Hassan, the coach of the Egyptian national team, being subjected to punishment because of his raising of the Palestinian flag.
Hossam Hassan raised the Palestinian flag during the celebrations of qualifying for the round of 16 of the World Cup following the victory over Australia on penalties.
FIFA stated in a statement to the Associated Press commenting on the incident: "Flags representing all 211 member associations of FIFA are permitted in FIFA tournaments, and fans are welcome to raise them in accordance with stadium regulations and codes of conduct inside the stadiums during FIFA tournaments".
The Palestinian Football Association is one of the member associations of FIFA.
Some reports claimed the possibility of Hossam Hassan being subjected to punishment because of this step.
The Brigadier said after the match in statements to beIN sports network: "I dedicate this victory to the good and generous Palestinian people, my heart and soul are with the Palestinians".
He added, "I thank them very much for their joy in our successes, and I ask God to grant them victory and have mercy on their martyrs".
The Egyptian national team qualified to face Argentina in the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup.
