The Supreme Council for Media announced the commencement of a comprehensive evaluation of the overall performance of sports media during the 2026 World Cup period.
The Egyptian national team bid farewell to the World Cup in the round of 16 after losing to Argentina 3-2.
The Council revealed in a statement on its official page: "The Sports Media Regulation Committee had preferred to wait until the end of the national team's participation in the World Cup, in order to begin a comprehensive evaluation of the overall sports media performance that accompanied the team's journey in the tournament, in preparation for presentation to the Council."
It added, "The Council will take what it deems appropriate in light of what emerges from the examination and the complaints received in this regard, in accordance with the provisions of the Press and Media Regulation Law No. 180 of 2018."
The Sports Media Performance Regulation Committee at the Supreme Council for Media Regulation also praised the honorable performance and achievement accomplished by the national team in the World Cup tournament.
The Council's statement read: "The Sports Media Regulation Committee commended the efforts of the national team heroes who presented a model to be emulated by Egyptian youth, particularly the national technical leadership of the team, headed by Captain Hossam Hassan, who succeeded in creating a unique state of national unity around the team."
The Committee affirmed, "This honorable performance confirmed the status and love of Egypt and Egyptians in the hearts of our Arab brothers, as observed and recorded by various local, Arab, and international media outlets, turning this participation into a historic epic that inspires future generations."
The statement concluded: "The Committee expresses its great appreciation for the efforts of Egyptian media professionals and those from all brotherly Arab countries, who provided professional and impartial coverage characterized by objectivity in order to fulfill their media mission with integrity; a matter that clearly contributed to creating the appropriate positive climate for the national team, making the heroes feel the extent of public opinion's love and support for them, and the rallying of millions behind them throughout their World Cup journey."
The team succeeded in advancing from the group stage after finishing second in Group Seven with 5 points, behind Belgium, the group leader, on goal difference.
Egypt defeated Australia in the round of 32 on penalties after a 1-1 draw.
In the round of 16, the team bid farewell to the World Cup after suffering a thrilling 3-2 defeat to Argentina, despite leading 2-0 until the 79th minute.
