Turkish press reports have revealed sensational allegations regarding the origins of Egyptian star Mohamed Salah, the new Trabzonspor player, after pointing to a connection between his ancestors and the "Dernekpazarı" area affiliated with the city of Trabzon.
According to the Turkish newspaper "takagazete", these allegations surfaced following Mohamed Salah's transfer to Trabzonspor, as the paper covered a report that attempted to trace the Egyptian star's family roots using artificial intelligence tools.
Allegations about Salah's origins
The newspaper stated that Mohamed Salah, born on June 15, 1992, in the village of Najrij in Egypt's Gharbia Governorate, may have roots tracing back to the Trabzon region, specifically to the "Ekşi Oğlu" family.
It explained that the alleged research indicates Salah's ancestors several generations ago descended from a family linked to an Ottoman figure known as "Ekşi Ali Pasha", said to have been close to Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror.
The report added that the children and grandchildren of this family spread over time across several Anatolian regions and lands under the Ottoman Empire, while branches settled in Egypt alongside another branch in the Kundo area of "Dernekpazarı" in Trabzon.
According to the newspaper, a branch of the "Ekşi Oğlu" family settled in Egypt, with search results claiming that Mohamed Salah's ancestors belonged to this branch, and that the shrine of "Ekşi Ali" in the "Kundo in Dernekpazarı" area represents one of the most prominent names tied to this alleged lineage.
Based on these details, the newspaper highlighted claims that Mohamed Salah's origins trace back to the "Ekşi Oğulları" family and that the family's roots are linked to the Ekşiali area in Kundo village, part of Dernekpazarı in Trabzon.
This comes as the Egyptian star begins a new chapter in his career after joining Trabzonspor, amid significant public and media interest in Turkey in the Egyptian player.
