Trabzonspor club president Ertuğrul Doğan spoke about the team's head coach, Fatih Tekke, who resigned following the defeat against Ferencváros, though his resignation was not accepted.
Trabzonspor suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat against Ferencváros in the second leg of the UEFA Europa League qualifying preliminary round.
Having also lost 1-0 at home in the first leg, the Black Sea club exited the European competition with an aggregate score of 5-0 across both matches.
Following the crushing defeat in Hungary, coach Fatih Tekke announced his resignation from Trabzonspor; however, the club's management rejected his resignation and decided to retain the experienced coach in his position.
Trabzonspor President's Comments on Fatih Tekke's Resignation
Ertuğrul Doğan, president of Trabzonspor, made media statements regarding this matter through the Turkish newspaper "HT Spor" after tensions surrounding the issue had subsided.
Discussing Fatih Tekke's decision to resign, Doğan said: "Fatih Tekke is from Trabzon and a supporter of Trabzonspor; he views things from a different perspective, experiencing joy and sorrow in a unique way."
He added: "Regarding the match defeat? There was very poor refereeing, but this was a spontaneous decision. The nature of people from the Black Sea region and Trabzon's distinct character led Fatih Tekke to announce his resignation."
Ertuğrul Doğan affirmed: "This stemmed from Fatih Tekke's sadness; he had no hidden motives or ill intentions—I emphasize this. It was a spontaneous decision, not a correct one. We spoke with him, and he already recognizes that it was mistaken."

The president clarified that his team aspires to win titles in the UEFA Conference League, the Turkish Süper Lig, and the Turkish Cup, stating: "We continue our journey in the Turkish Süper Lig, the Conference League, and the Turkish Cup; our goal is to lead in all competitions."
Trabzonspor President: It Is Difficult to Find a Striker Who Impresses Fatih Tekke
Speaking about the club's efforts to sign strikers, the Trabzonspor president joked: "It is difficult to find a striker who impresses our coach; he was Turkey's all-time top scorer, but we are working on some names."
Doğan concluded his remarks by saying: "We aim to recruit young players capable of generating revenue for Trabzonspor through future sales."
Trabzonspor, whose squad includes professional Mohamed Salah, will face Amedspor on Monday evening in the third round of the Turkish league for the new 2026/2027 season.
