Egyptian champion Rahma Talaat clinched the gold medal in the -61 kg karate competition at the "Taranto 2026" Mediterranean Games, after defeating Turkey's Fatima Naz with a score of 8-0 in the final match.
Rahma Ahmed delivered a strong performance throughout the karate tournament, beginning her journey by defeating Croatia's Mi Greta 4-1 in the Round of 16, before overcoming Italy's Alessandra 9-3 in the quarterfinals.
The Egyptian champion continued her brilliance in the semifinals, drawing 5-5 with France's Monica Arzouman, before securing her place in the final thanks to superiority criteria, ultimately succeeding in claiming the gold medal.

The karate competitions also feature Olympic champion Ferial Ashraf competing for the gold medal in the 68 kg category, where she will face Italy's Silvia Simmaro in the final match.
Ferial Ashraf began her campaign by defeating Morocco's champion 3-1 in the Round of 16, then surpassed Bosnia and Herzegovina's champion in the quarterfinals following a tie in points, advancing via superiority criteria.
In the semifinals, Ferial Ashraf secured victory over France's Thalia Sombi with a score of 3-0, booking her spot in the final match and guaranteeing Egypt another medal in the karate competitions.
Rahma Talaat's triumph raised the Egyptian delegation's total medal count at the Mediterranean Games to 45, comprising 17 gold, 14 silver, and 14 bronze medals.
The Egyptian delegation is participating in the Mediterranean Games across 23 sports: archery, athletics, badminton, 3×3 basketball, boxing, canoe and kayak, equestrian, fencing, aquatic sports and short-course swimming, gymnastics, handball, judo, karate, padel, rowing, sailing, shooting, table tennis, volleyball, weightlifting, wrestling, finswimming, and amateur sliding.
Egypt ranks sixth among nations with the most medals won in the history of the Mediterranean Games, with a total of 620 diverse medals: 156 gold, 209 silver, and 255 bronze.
