A new medal for Egypt.. Abdelrahman Younis wins gold in weightlifting at the Mediterranean Games

Egyptian weightlifter Abdelrahman Youssef successfully secured his second gold medal at the Mediterranean Games held in the Italian city of Taranto, which continue until September 3 with the participation of 3,803 athletes from 26 countries.

Abdelrahman Youssef won the gold medal in the clean and jerk competition in the 85 kg category after reaffirming his superiority over his Libyan counterpart Mohamed El-Sharif by lifting 205 kg.

Previously, Abdelrahman Youssef had won the gold medal in the snatch event in the 85 kg category by lifting 172 kg, surpassing his nearest competitor, Libyan Mohamed El-Sharif, by approximately 5 kg, thereby breaking the world record.

The Pharaohs' medal tally has now reached 44 at the Mediterranean Games, placing Egypt in contention with the leading nations and maintaining its position atop the Arab countries with 16 gold, 14 silver, and 14 bronze medals.

The Egyptian delegation is competing in the Mediterranean Games across 23 sports: archery, athletics, badminton, 3x3 basketball, boxing, canoe and kayak, equestrian, fencing, aquatic sports and short-course swimming, gymnastics, handball, judo, karate, padel, rowing, sailing, shooting, table tennis, volleyball, weightlifting, wrestling, finswimming, and amateur sliding.

Egypt ranks sixth among the most decorated nations in the history of the Mediterranean Games, with a total of 620 diverse medals: 156 gold, 209 silver, and 255 bronze.
