Javier Tebas, president of the Spanish League Association, launched a fiery attack on Gianni Infantino, president of the International Federation of Football "FIFA".
Tebas believes that Infantino's system is sick from its roots: "There is no opposing candidate, and no one wants to run to lose."
The president of the Spanish League Association demanded in an interview with "La Gazzetta dello Sport" the removal of Infantino: "I think his role has ended."
He added: "I do not know whether silence or complicity is worse, because those who remain silent are fully aware of the damage that football is suffering."
The FIFA elections are scheduled to be held at the FIFA conference in March 2027, and Infantino has expressed his intention to run for a fourth term.
Increasing the number of World Cup teams
Tebas rejected increasing the number of teams in the World Cup: "It is illogical; the football industry is not just the World Cup, which is the most important event.. Not everything revolves around the World Cup. It is the national competitions that support this sport."
Tebas continued: "They are destroying the industry, the one that provides tens of thousands of job opportunities, and the continuous expansion of international matches puts thousands of ordinary jobs in clubs at risk, and why? For the sake of an event that lasts 40 days and is attended by only a minority of players."
He continued his attack: "We need fewer teams and greater protection for national football, at all levels. They do not realize this, but they are making irresponsible decisions."
FIFA decided to increase the number of teams in the World Cup to 48 teams starting from the 2026 edition in the United States of America, Canada, and Mexico.
Meanwhile, Infantino revealed his intention to increase the number of teams to 48 teams in the 2030 edition in Spain, Portugal, and Morocco.
Lifting the suspension on Balogun
He added in his attack on Infantino's decisions: "Suspending the decision to suspend the player from America, America is extremely dangerous.. They were lucky that Belgium eliminated the United States of America, otherwise it would have been possible to create an issue that could cost Infantino his job."
He continued: "Since Belgium won, they were able to bury the matter. But these matters are nothing but the tip of the iceberg.. FIFA fixes things as it pleases, for the purpose it wants, and for its own interests, and certainly not for the interests of football."
FIFA decided to lift the suspension on Folarin Balogun, the American national team player, in the round of 16 match against Belgium, despite receiving a red card against Bosnia in the round of 32.
US President Donald Trump admitted demanding that Infantino lift the suspension on Balogun before the match against Belgium, amid objections from the European Union.
Break periods
The president of the Spanish League Association also attacked the break periods during matches: "If they need a 27-minute break that suits their interests, they simply do it. These water break periods are just a lie."
FIFA made a number of amendments to be implemented in the World Cup, including a 3-minute break in the middle of each half, in addition to increasing the half-time break in the final match to 30 minutes.
Tebas concluded his interview: "In America, the stadiums in Dallas, Los Angeles, and Atlanta were fully air-conditioned; I had to wear a jacket in the stands. The heat issue was a complete lie; it was just a pretext for a commercial break."
The Spanish national team won the World Cup for the second time in history after defeating Argentina in the final match with a clean goal.
