Barcelona is studying signing Girona player Azzedine Ounahi during the current transfer period, in light of Frenkie de Jong's injury that may keep him out for several months.
Azzedine Ounahi
Club: Girona
Ounahi is one of the most prominent names being considered within the Catalan club, especially with the possibility of his departure for around 10 million euros after his team's relegation.
According to Mundo Deportivo newspaper, Barcelona is considering more than one scenario to compensate for de Jong's absence, including heading for a low-cost deal to bolster the midfield.
Also, the possibility of Casado's departure during the transfer market may increase Barcelona's need to strengthen this position.
Barcelona faces competition from Real Betis, who are also seeking to sign the Moroccan player during the ongoing transfer market.
Ounahi had previously caught the attention strongly during his participation with the Moroccan national team in the 2022 World Cup, when he contributed to eliminating Spain from the round of 16.
Despite Barcelona's interest in the player at that time, they did not make an official offer, so he later moved to Marseille in January 2023.
Barcelona's current move comes as they seek to bolster their ranks at the lowest costs due to financial constraints, while awaiting the resolution of the deal's status in the coming days.
Barcelona club announced in an official statement earlier, that their Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong suffered an injury to his right knee.
The Catalan club explained that medical examinations proved that de Jong suffered a tear in the medial collateral ligament of the right knee, without revealing the expected duration of his absence from the pitches.
De Jong suffers from an injury record in the recent period, as he was absent last season for nearly two months due to a muscle injury in the thigh.
If the expected absence period is confirmed, de Jong may not return to participate before November, thus missing the start of the season with Barcelona.
