Mohamed Wahbi, the technical director of the Moroccan national team, expressed his satisfaction with his players' performance despite the loss to France in the quarter-finals of the 2026 World Cup, stressing that facing a team the size of the "Roosters" requires the highest levels of concentration, which the Atlas Lions lacked in some periods of the match.
Wahbi said after the match in television statements: "It was a difficult confrontation against a big team that has a group of distinguished players. At times we were good, and the players tried to find themselves in the match, especially during the second half, but when you face a strong team, it is natural to lose concentration at some moments".
The Moroccan coach added: "Our players made some mistakes that the French players exploited, and there were also mistakes from the opponent, such as the handball that preceded the first goal, as well as the second goal that came after a mistake by a French player".
Wahbi stressed that the Moroccan national team will continue to work in the coming period, saying: "We have a young team, and strong entitlements await us, we have worked hard to achieve victory in this match, but facing a very strong team makes the task more difficult".
The French national team had secured its qualification to the semi-finals of the 2026 World Cup, after defeating Morocco two goals to nil, repeating its superiority over the Atlas Lions for the second time in a row in the World Cup, after eliminating it from the semi-final round of the 2022 edition in Qatar.
