The Moroccan website le360 spor reported that there is a trend within the African Football Confederation to accept the proposal of Hani Abu Rida, president of the Egyptian Football Association, to increase the number of clubs participating in the African competitions next season.
The report clarified that the available data indicate that the proposal received positive interaction within CAF corridors, as a number of Executive Committee members lean toward approving an increase in the number of clubs participating in the African Champions League, while keeping the Confederation Cup system without any modification.
The project aims to grant some national federations an additional seat in the Champions League, with these seats to be distributed according to continental ranking criteria and the regulatory controls in force at CAF, according to the report.
The hypothesis of adopting this amendment was strengthened after the Competitions Committee decided to postpone the final deadline for determining the clubs participating in the African competitions until August next, which gives CAF additional time to complete the legal and organizational procedures before the official announcement of the new system.
The Executive Office of the African Football Confederation "CAF" is discussing several files before presenting their results at a conference by Patrice Motsepe, president of the Confederation.

A source from CAF told FilGoal.com: "There will be a meeting of the Executive Office before Motsepe's conference to discuss several files, and the president of the African Confederation will announce the decisions afterward."
He added, "The mechanism of some submitted proposals will be discussed, including the Egyptian Federation's request to increase the number of clubs in the continental competitions, so that every scenario will be studied, whether by increasing for all federations or only the highest-ranked federations or deferring the matter."
He continued, "The proposal to increase the number of teams in the 2028 Africa Cup of Nations based on the request of more than one federation and the mechanism for implementing that will also be discussed."
The source concluded his statements: "Finally, discussing the mechanism for developing African football after evaluating the performance of continental participation in the World Cup."
CAF indicated that Motsepe will speak to the media about many developments in the African Confederation and African football.
CAF also clarified in its statement that Motsepe will speak about his assessment of the performance of the African teams in the last World Cup.
Ten African teams participated in the 2026 World Cup, which was held in the United States of America, Canada, and Mexico.
Nine teams qualified for the round of 32, while only the Tunisian national team exited the World Cup from the group stage.
The Egyptian and Moroccan teams continued their journey in the World Cup, before the Pharaohs exited against Argentina in the round of 16, followed by the Atlas Lions in the quarterfinals against France.
Egypt had submitted a request to CAF to increase the number of clubs participating in the African Champions League and the Confederation Cup.
A statement from the Egyptian Football Association revealed: "The share of some federations may rise, according to the ranking criteria in force, to 3 clubs in the African Champions League and 3 clubs in the African Confederation Cup, provided that the additional clubs' participation begins from the preliminary rounds."
