The Egyptian national team achieved an important victory in the match they played against the Australian national team, as part of the Round of 32 matches of the 2026 World Cup in penalty shootouts.

The Pharaohs had finished the two halves of the match with a positive draw of 1-1, before entering extra time, which saw no goals until the penalty shootouts, where the Egyptian team won 4-2.

Egypt's path after defeating Australia

The Egyptian team is set to face Argentina, the World Cup champion in Qatar 2022 led by Lionel Messi, in the Round of 16, as Argentina won their match against Cape Verde 3-2 in the Round of 32 of the tournament.

If the Egyptian team qualifies for the quarter-finals, they will face the winner of the match between Switzerland and Colombia, as both teams will play a strong match in the Round of 16, after Switzerland defeated Algeria and Colombia defeated Ghana.

If the Egyptian team continues their journey and reaches the semi-finals, they will clash with the winner from the path that includes Brazil against Norway, and Mexico against England.

Thus, the Pharaohs' opponent in the semi-finals will be one of four teams: Brazil, Norway, Mexico, or England, in one of the strongest matches of the tournament.

If the Egyptian team manages to reach the final match scheduled for July 19, they will await the winner from the other half of the draw, which includes matches between France and Paraguay, Canada and Morocco, Portugal and Spain, and the United States and Belgium.
