English Premier League club Hull City have reached an agreement to sign Australian Lucas Harrington from American side Colorado Rapids.
The 18-year-old defender participated in the 2026 World Cup and missed his penalty shootout kick against Egypt in the round of 32 last month.
According to "The Athletic" network, the club recently promoted back to the English Premier League will sign the young player for 17 million dollars in addition to 6 million dollars in bonuses and 15% of the resale percentage.
The report indicated that the player has not yet reached a final agreement on the personal terms, but they will not pose an obstacle to his transfer.
The young defender's name was linked to a move to Barcelona and Liverpool earlier.
Harrington joined Rapids in 2026 with a contract extending to 2029 with an option to extend for an additional season, and played 17 matches for his team in the American league.
The young player's brilliance in the World Cup, especially in the group stage, contributed to attracting attention.
Many criticized Australia coach Tony Popovic for leaving the young defender to take the fourth penalty kick against Egypt.
The veteran coach defended his decision, saying: "It's easy to talk after the fact, the talk would have been different if he had scored. Then you would have said what a great move that an 18-year-old player steps up and scores his penalty."
He revealed: "He participated in the last two matches at the age of 18, and if I didn't trust him, I wouldn't have played him. Against Paraguay, he cleared off the goal line, so what's the difference with a penalty?"
The Egyptian national team defeated Australia 4-2 on penalties after the original and extra time ended 1-1, securing qualification for the round of 16.
Hull City returned to the English Premier League for the first time since 2016-17.
Harrington will be the Tigers' fourth signing after goalkeeper Jack Butland, Japanese Hidemasa Morita, and Englishman Matt Targett, former Newcastle player.
Hull City start their Premier League campaign with a match against Manchester United on August 22.
In friendlies, the English team defeated Konyaspor and Rizespor and drew with Turkish side Kasimpasa in preparation for the new season.
