Portugal national team new coach Jorge Jesus confirmed that he has not yet spoken with Cristiano Ronaldo about his future and his role in the next stage.

Jesus officially took over the coaching of the Portugal national team, succeeding Spaniard Roberto Martinez.

Jesus said at a press conference introducing him to the media: "I would like to thank the president of the Portuguese Federation for giving me the opportunity to coach one of the best national teams in the world."

He added: "We are here to win, and given the capabilities we possess, we can trust in our ability to elevate the level of the players, and thus elevate the level of the national team."

He continued: "I am proud to be Portuguese, and now I will be a coach representing 11 million people."

He went on: "I have not spoken with Cristiano yet; it will never pose a problem for the Portugal national team or for me personally. As for the ongoing controversy, everyone has the right to express their opinion. I will speak with him and with everyone individually."

He continued: "Cristiano is a symbol of Portugal, and working with him was wonderful. Dealing with him is very easy, and it only requires that he realizes what he can achieve and what I can achieve, but I need to talk to him to know what he wants to do."

He pointed out: "Ronaldo has always told me of his desire to end his football career at Al-Nassr club, and now it remains to be seen what is best for him."

He concluded: "I am 71 years old, but I feel as if I am in my fifties because I am in good health. I train daily. It will be a difficult challenge, but I believe we will achieve victory."
