The Egyptian handball team qualifies for the Mediterranean Games final.

The Egyptian handball team has qualified for the final of the 2026 Taranto Mediterranean Games after overcoming Algeria in the semifinals.

Egypt defeated Algeria 27-25 in the handball semifinal at the 2026 Taranto Mediterranean Games.

In the final of the Mediterranean Games, Egypt's handball team will face the winner of the second semifinal match between Greece and Portugal.

The first half ended with Egypt leading Algeria 14-12.

The second half witnessed excitement and competitiveness between both teams, as Algeria came back to level the score at 24-24 with 8 minutes remaining.

Egypt then took a two-goal lead at 26-24, before Algeria reduced the deficit to one goal. Egypt's goalkeeper Youssef Naji successfully saved an Algerian penalty shot in the final minute.

Ziad Hashad then scored Egypt's 27th goal in the final seconds, securing victory for the Pharaohs and their qualification to the final.

Egypt is participating in the Mediterranean Games with its second team, which includes a group of players from the national first team along with elements from the local league and the youth national team.

Egypt's Top Scorers Statistics

Baygad Marwan and Mohsen Ramadan are Egypt's top scorers with 5 goals each.

They are followed by Hany Fox and Ziad Hashad with 4 goals each, then Omar Castillo with 3 goals.

Additionally, Egypt's goalkeeper Abdelrahman Hamid saved 11 shots out of 32.

Youssef Naji also saved 6 shots out of 10.

Schedule for the Mediterranean Games Final

Egypt's handball team will meet the winner of the Portugal vs. Greece match in the final of the 2026 Taranto Mediterranean Games next Monday, August 31, at 9:00 PM.

Meanwhile, Algeria will face the loser of the Portugal vs. Greece match to compete for the bronze medal of the 2026 Taranto Mediterranean Games at 6:30 PM next Monday, August 31.

Egypt's last participation in the Mediterranean Games was in the 2022 Oran edition, where Egypt won the silver medal after losing to Spain 28-27.
