Romario, the Brazilian national team legend, attacked the Italian Carlo Ancelotti, the technical director of the "Selecao", demanding his dismissal following the exit from the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup tournament.
The British newspaper The Sun reported that Romario, the Brazilian football legend, demanded that the Brazilian Football Confederation dismiss Carlo Ancelotti, after the national team exited the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup with a 2-1 loss to Norway.
Romario demands Ancelotti's dismissal
Romario, who was present at the match as a television analyst, said: "There is no way for Ancelotti to continue as coach of the Brazilian national team after this farce, and this disgrace he caused against Norway."
He added: "If I were in charge, I would tear up his contract and tell him to resort to the courts if he wanted."
Romario attacks Endrick
Romario did not stop at criticizing Ancelotti, but also directed criticism at the young striker Endrick, after he squandered a clear chance during the match.
He said: "I love Endrick and I believe he will give Brazil a lot in the future, but he was very bad against Norway. Some say he is still young, but he should have scored that chance, and his age does not matter to me."
Ancelotti enjoys the support of the Brazilian Football Confederation
Despite the public anger, the newspaper indicated that Ancelotti still enjoys the support of the Brazilian Football Confederation, as Rodrigo Caetano, coordinator of the national teams, confirmed that the Italian coach will remain in his position until the end of the current project.
Ancelotti's comment
For his part, Ancelotti expressed his sadness after the elimination, saying: "The result is disappointing and makes us feel great sadness, but it also represents the beginning of a new cycle for this team. We did not deserve the loss, but we must also acknowledge the strength of the opponent."
He added: "Starting tomorrow, we will begin thinking about the future, because Brazil has a distinguished group of young players and experienced ones capable of returning the team to the right path."
