German club Leipzig announced the signing of Norwegian goalkeeper Ørjan Nyland in a free transfer deal during the current summer transfer window.
Nyland returns to the German club after being away from the team for 3 years, when he moved to Spanish side Sevilla in 2023.
Norway's goalkeeper joins Leipzig until 2028
The Norwegian goalkeeper signed contracts to join the German club for two years until 2028.
The 1.92-meter-tall goalkeeper was under contract with Leipzig during the 2022/23 season, when Nyland joined Leipzig in October 2022 and made three official appearances for the club, in addition to being part of the team that successfully defended the German Cup title at the end of the season.
The 35-year-old player will take part in his first training session with the team in Saalfelden today, Tuesday.
Nyland said: "I did not hesitate for a moment to return to Leipzig. I have many beautiful memories with the club and the coaching staff, and I look forward to seeing them again."
He added: "I have gained valuable experience in Spain since the last time I was here. My participation in the World Cup with Norway was one of the highlights of my career, and it confirmed to me how much I enjoy big matches and the competitive atmosphere. I now want to bring this energy to Leipzig."
The Norwegian goalkeeper concluded: "Leipzig is an ambitious club and will compete on three fronts this season. I look forward to playing in the Bundesliga and facing the upcoming challenges together, especially seeing many familiar faces again. It is wonderful to return to Leipzig."
Nyland participated in the World Cup in Canada, the United States, and Mexico this summer, where his outstanding performance helped Norway qualify for the quarterfinals of the tournament for the first time. The 35-year-old delivered a brilliant performance in his team's 2-1 victory over Brazil in the round of 16, saving a penalty from Bruno Guimarães and making several decisive saves to help his team advance.
