Media reports have revealed a significant development regarding Al-Hilal Saudi Club's ongoing attempts to sign Brazilian winger Gabriel Martinelli during the current summer transfer window.
Al-Hilal is seeking to strengthen its first-team squad following the departure of Brazilian Malcolm Felipe and the imminent exit of veteran French striker Karim Benzema, who refused to be included in the Asian Champions League roster.
Developments in Al-Hilal's negotiations to sign Martinelli
According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Al-Hilal continues to maintain advanced negotiations to acquire Gabriel Martinelli from English club Arsenal.
Romano added on his "X" platform account: "Al-Hilal hopes to reach an agreement soon; however, he will not travel to the Saudi capital, Riyadh, today."
Romano confirmed: "Sources close to Al-Hilal denied reports claiming Martinelli traveled to Saudi Arabia, but negotiations with the player's agent are ongoing."
The transfer market expert noted that Al-Hilal is confident of completing the deal, given the player's willingness to leave the Emirates Stadium due to his declining participation rate with the team.
These moves are part of a comprehensive plan to rejuvenate Al-Hilal's attacking line, as the Saudi club has already signed Dutch winger Crescendo Summerville from West Ham United.
Martinelli participated in 53 matches across all competitions last season with the Gunners, scoring 11 goals and providing 7 assists, and holds a contract with the London club until summer 2027.
The 25-year-old Brazilian star joined Arsenal from Brazilian club Ituano for €7.10 million in the summer of 2019.
