The Egyptian national team is preparing for a new test against South Africa, in a friendly match concluding the September camp, following their historic 5-0 victory over South Sudan.
Egypt will face South Africa at 9:00 PM on Sunday, October 4, at Cairo International Stadium.
Egyptian superiority in market value
The Egyptian national team holds an advantage in terms of its players' market value, with the Pharaohs valued at approximately €113 million, compared to €42.45 million for the South African national team, according to the statistics website "Transfermarkt."
In terms of age, the difference appears limited, as the average age of Egypt's players is 27.9 years, compared to 27.2 years for South Africa.
Both teams also have an equal number of players playing professionally abroad, with nine players each.
History favors South Africa
Despite Egypt's superiority in market value, head-to-head encounters lean in favor of South Africa.
The two teams have met in 13 previous matches, with Egypt securing five victories, compared to seven wins for South Africa, while one encounter ended in a draw.
The last meeting between the two teams was during the group stage of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, where Egypt succeeded in winning by a single goal without reply, breaking a streak of negative results against Bafana Bafana.
The Pharaohs after a mixed start in the qualifiers
The friendly against South Africa comes after Egypt played the first two rounds of the qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Pharaohs began their campaign with a goalless draw against Angola at Cairo Stadium, before sweeping South Sudan with a clean sheet of five goals.
