The Portuguese newspaper A Bola reported that the International Federation of Football (FIFA) has put in place an unprecedented emergency plan before the France and Morocco match, to avoid any malfunctions that may affect the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology.
The Moroccan national team faces its French counterpart, at eleven in the evening today, Thursday, in the quarter-final round of the World Cup.
The newspaper added that FIFA decided to have the video assistant referee Leodan Gonzalez, along with the reserve assistant referee Tatiana Guzman, inside the match stadium, in anticipation of any malfunction in the connection with the main video operations room located in the American city of Dallas.
It indicated that in the event of a disconnection with the main VAR room, the two referees will manage the review of the clips directly from the stadium, which ensures the continued use of the technology without affecting the course of the match.
A Bola confirmed that FIFA regulations do not allow stopping any match due to a malfunction in the video technology, which prompted the international federation to implement this precautionary measure for the first time, to ensure the continued operation of the system throughout the match, including extra time if the confrontation extends to it.
