Media reports revealed today that Real Madrid is considering signing a player from the Italian league to strengthen its midfield during the current summer transfer window.
The midfield is considered one of the weakest points in Real Madrid's current squad, amid widespread criticism directed at Aurélien Tchouaméni and Eduardo Camavinga.
The newspaper "AS" reported that Real Madrid is seriously considering signing Manu Koné, star of AS Roma, before the closure of the current summer transfer window.
It added that Real Madrid has been monitoring Koné for some time, having watched several of his matches, and considers the French international a promising option to reinforce the midfield position.
The report clarified that Koné is not the only option to strengthen Real Madrid's midfield, but he remains among the candidates. Meanwhile, Johnny Calafat, head of scouting for Los Blancos, watched the player during Roma's match against Fiorentina this week in the Italian league, which ended with a 4-0 victory for Roma.

Calafat's presence at this match also focused on monitoring Franco Mastantuono, the Real Madrid player currently on loan at Fiorentina. Meanwhile, Koné is under contract with Roma until 2029, with a release clause valued at €60 million in his contract with the Italian club.
Koné joined Roma in 2024 from Borussia Mönchengladbach, following the departure of current Real Madrid manager José Mourinho from coaching the Giallorossi.
Koné has earned 19 caps for the French national team. AS highlighted his performances with France during the last World Cup, where the 25-year-old delivered outstanding displays for Les Bleus against Iraq, Norway, Paraguay, and Morocco, effectively compensating for Aurélien Tchouaméni's absence due to injury.
AS further noted that Koné excels in winning duels, presses intelligently, possesses excellent defensive awareness, boasts a strong physical build, controls the ball well, and demonstrates great vision. His passing accuracy reached 90% last season while playing for Roma.
The report added that Koné's abilities perfectly match what Mourinho requires from a midfielder. However, Real Madrid is unlikely to sign the player this summer, as Los Merengues consider their summer transfer window closed unless a player departs in the coming days.
AS concluded by stating that Real Madrid is prepared to allow any of its players to leave, given that Tchouaméni and Eduardo Camavinga are linked with moves to Manchester United, Liverpool, and Chelsea. While these three clubs are seeking to sign a midfielder, Real Madrid will not currently sign any new player.
