Luciano Spalletti, Juventus' technical director, confirmed that Argentine goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez wants to leave Aston Villa during the current summer transfer window.

Spalletti's statements came days after the Argentina national team lost the 2026 World Cup final, a tournament after which Martinez hinted he was considering his international future.
However, Spalletti expressed confidence that the deal could be completed, saying in remarks reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport: "Emiliano Martinez is a player who wants to move this summer, and we are looking for competition in the goalkeeper position."
He added, "We already have two goalkeepers at the moment."
Although Aston Villa have been linked with several goalkeepers as potential replacements for Martinez, the club has already made major changes to its squad in preparation for the 2026-2027 season, which could push it to keep the Argentine goalkeeper.
Previous reports indicated that Juventus has not yet approached the financial value Aston Villa is asking to agree to sell Martinez.
Spalletti's public comments may also reduce the Italian club's chances of reaching an agreement, especially as they could prompt Aston Villa's management to harden its stance in negotiations.
Martinez's contract with Aston Villa runs until the summer of 2029, giving the English club a strong negotiating position should any official offers arrive.
Uncertainty is not limited to the goalkeeper's future with his national team; doubts also surround his future with Aston Villa amid Juventus' interest in signing him.
Nevertheless, an Aston Villa official previously confirmed the club's commitment to keeping the veteran goalkeeper and that there is no intention to let him go this summer.
