Barcelona club star Dani Olmo broke his silence and responded sharply to the apology of Roberto Ayala, a member of the Argentine national team's coaching staff, following the altercation that occurred between the duo after the final of the World Cup tournament in Canada, Mexico, and America, describing the former defender as a liar.
Spain won the World Cup title for the second time in its history, after defeating Argentina in the final by one goal to nothing.
But after the end of the match, many unfortunate incidents occurred, including Ayala's assault on Olmo and grabbing the latter by the neck.
Ayala apologized for his behavior with Olmo after the end of the match, explaining that he should not have acted in that way (details from here).
But Olmo confirmed that Ayala did not tell the truth, as he said in statements reported by "Mundo Deportivo": "The person who claims remorse, then justifies his punch to you by saying it was a reaction to what he said, perhaps does not feel remorse at all, because he is lying, I did not say anything to him, so I do not need his apology, what really sets our standards as people is not the mistake itself, but our courage to admit it."
He added: "When my children, my family, many fans, and the people of Terrassa watch the match, I want them to be proud of how we competed, how we won, and above all, our conduct, because the importance of football means that we as players are role models for children and new generations, and this carries a great responsibility, but thank God, this is what they actually saw, and that we are world champions after all this effort."
The dispute between the Argentine and Spanish players was not limited to the altercation that occurred between Olmo and Ayala only, but other things happened such as the assault by Leandro Paredes, the Tango midfielder, on Gavi, the Barcelona and La Roja player.
