The Spanish Football Federation announced in an official statement the injury of winger Nico Williams and his departure from the national team camp.

Spain is preparing to face Czechia on Saturday as part of Matchday 3 of Group 3 in the UEFA Nations League.

The Spanish Federation stated in its official announcement: "Nico Williams felt some discomfort in his left thigh muscle following the match played by the national team against Croatia in Seville."

It continued, "The player was closely monitored during the rest day, and due to persistent pain, he did not participate in Thursday's training session."

It added, "Following medical examinations conducted by the Spanish Federation's medical services this Thursday, it was decided to exclude the player from the current camp, with him continuing his recovery process."

It concluded, "Athletic Bilbao's medical staff has been continuously informed about the progress of the player's condition, who will continue his treatment and rehabilitation program under his club's supervision."

Williams reached his third injury with the Spanish national team and the 11th injury in his career with clubs and the national team.

He had previously missed 36 matches due to injuries sustained throughout his career.

This is considered the second injury in the Spanish national team camp after Barcelona defender Eric García left La Roja's camp due to injury following the match against England in Matchday 1 (see details).

Williams participated with the Spanish national team in the previous match against Croatia, which ended in a 4-1 victory for Spain.

He played in the first round match against England, which ended in a 3-2 victory for Spain.

The Spanish national team tops Group 3 with 6 points in a group that includes Czechia, England, and Croatia.

Williams won the 2026 World Cup with the Spanish national team, held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

The Spanish national team clinched the tournament after defeating Argentina 1-0 with a goal by Ferran Torres.
