Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz is close to continuing as head coach of the Ghana national team after reaching a new agreement with the Ghana Football Association, according to GhanaSoccerNet.

Queiroz took charge of the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 World Cup on a short-term contract.

The report clarified that Queiroz is expected to remain as Ghana's head coach, as the Portuguese manager is now close to finalizing a new deal with the Ghana Football Association.

Queiroz's future remained uncertain following the expiration of his initial four-month contract; however, negotiations for a contract extension have made significant progress after settling overdue financial dues owed to the coach and his technical staff.

According to the report, the Ghana Football Association settled the financial obligations related to their contracts during Ghana's World Cup campaign, with assistance from the Ministry of Sports.

It is believed that settling these dues removed a major obstacle to negotiations, paving the way for both parties to finalize a new agreement.

The report indicated that negotiations have now reached an advanced stage, and Queiroz is expected to sign his new contract in the coming period.

The veteran coach had taken charge of the Ghanaian national team in April, following the dismissal of Otto Addo in March after a series of disappointing results.

Despite his brief tenure with the team, Queiroz successfully led the Black Stars to the Round of 32 in the World Cup, losing by a single goal to Colombia, which strengthened his position to continue in his role.

Should the new agreement be finalized, the former Egypt national team coach will lead Ghana in their qualification campaign for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Black Stars are scheduled to begin their qualifying journey with an away match against Côte d'Ivoire on September 24 at the Peace Stadium in Bouaké.

The Ghanaian team will then return home three days later to face Gambia at Accra Stadium.

The Black Stars are striving hard to secure a spot in the next edition of the Africa Cup of Nations, having missed the previous tournament hosted by Morocco.
