The Ghana national team has announced the renewal of Carlos Queiroz's contract to continue coaching the squad.
Queiroz took charge of the Black Stars before the 2026 World Cup under a short-term contract.
Queiroz's future remained uncertain after his initial four-month contract expired, but negotiations for an extension made significant progress following the settlement of overdue financial dues owed to the coach and his assistant staff.
According to Ghanaian reports, the Ghana Football Association settled the financial obligations related to their contracts during Ghana's World Cup campaign, with assistance from the Ministry of Sports.
It is believed that settling these dues removed a major obstacle to negotiations and paved the way for both parties to finalize a new agreement.
The report indicated that negotiations have now reached an advanced stage, and Queiroz is expected to sign his new contract in the coming period.
The veteran coach had taken charge of the Ghanaian national team in April, following the dismissal of Otto Addo in March after a series of disappointing results.
Despite his brief tenure with the team, Queiroz successfully led the Black Stars to the Round of 32 in the World Cup, losing by a single goal against Colombia, which strengthened his position to remain in his role.
The Black Stars are scheduled to begin their qualifying campaign with an away match against Côte d'Ivoire on September 24 at the Peace Stadium in Bouaké.
The Ghanaian team will then return home three days later to face Gambia at Accra Stadium.
The Black Stars are strongly aiming to secure a spot in the next edition of the Africa Cup of Nations, after missing out on the previous tournament hosted by Morocco.
before taking charge of Ghana in 2026.
