Rami Rabia, the Egypt national team defender, wore the Pharaohs' captain's armband for the third time in his history, during the currently ongoing match against South Sudan in the second round of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The Egyptian national team is leading South Sudan by two goals to nil, thanks to Mostafa Ziko and Omar Marmoush, in the currently ongoing match as they seek their first three points after a goalless draw with Angola.

Rami Rabia wears the Egypt national team captain's armband against South Sudan, due to Mohamed Salah's absence following a decision to rest him, along with Mahmoud Trezeguet who did not join the Pharaohs' camp, following an injury he sustained in recent days with his Saudi club Al-Riyadh.

Rami Rabia captains the Egypt national team for the third time in history

This is the third time Rami Rabia has started a match for the Egypt national team wearing the captain's armband, having previously led the Egyptian team in two matches, in which the Pharaohs won each time.

The first time Rami Rabia wore the Egypt national team captain's armband was during the match against Mauritania, in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, held in October 2024, where the Egyptian national team secured the match with a one-nil victory.

Rami Rabia returned to wear the national team's captain's armband during the match against Guinea-Bissau, in the World Cup qualifiers, in October 2025, and the match ended with the same result.
