Leandro Paredes, a player for the Argentina national football team, spoke about the sanction he received following incidents during the 2026 World Cup final against Spain.

Several Argentine players became involved in heated altercations with Spanish players after the final whistle, led by Leandro Paredes and Molina.

FIFA decided to suspend Paredes for 10 matches and impose a fine of $90,000, (click here to see the remaining sanctions).

Paredes commented for the first time on the sanction imposed on him, in statements reported by the Spanish newspaper "AS": "The sanction is huge and excessive. It is also strange that Gavi received a lighter sanction than me, even though he is the one who punched me in the chest."

Gavi had only been suspended for one match and fined $30,000, a much lighter sanction than that imposed on the Argentine player.

He concluded: "We must now appeal the sanction and see if it can be reduced. For me, it is a severe and excessive sanction. I hope it will be reduced."
