Reports have revealed the first step taken by the Spanish Football Federation following the sanction imposed on Gavi, a player for the Spain national football team, due to incidents during the match against Argentina in the 2026 World Cup final.
FIFA decided to suspend Gavi, the Spanish national team player, for one match and impose a fine of $30,000.
The Spanish national team defeated Argentina 1-0 in the 2026 World Cup final, winning the tournament for the second time in their history.
Several Argentine players became involved in violent altercations with Spanish players after the final whistle, led by Leandro Paredes and Molina.
According to the Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo," the Spanish Football Federation is preparing to appeal Gavi's sanction to FIFA's Appeals Committee.
The report stated that the Spanish Football Federation believes Gavi did not assault any player but intervened to protect his teammate Eric Garcia during a fight with Leandro Paredes, who was sanctioned with a 10-match suspension.
The Federation is expected to request that the sanction be suspended for one year under probation, citing a similar precedent. If approved, Gavi will be available to play against England on September 26.
