The Egyptian delegation achieved a historic milestone at the "Taranto 2026" Mediterranean Games by surpassing its previous record for gold medals in a single edition.

Egypt raised its tally to 22 gold medals at the 2026 Mediterranean Games, marking its best performance in gold medals in a single edition since winning 21 medals in the 2013 games.

Egypt's journey this year witnessed outstanding performances in several sports, most notably weightlifting, which awarded the delegation multiple gold medals, including two won by Sara Samir.

Additionally, the Egyptian handball team clinched the gold medal after defeating Greece 31-29 in the final match.

The all-time record still belongs to the Egyptian delegation from the 1959 edition, when they secured 23 gold medals.

In total, the Egyptian delegation won 56 medals: 22 gold, 15 silver, and 19 bronze, placing them fifth among the top medal-winning countries in the current edition of the Mediterranean Games.
