The legendary coach of the Egyptian national team, Hassan Shehata, believes that Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet should start against Australia.
The Egyptian national team faces a crucial match against Australia at 9 PM today, Friday, as part of the round of 32 in the 2026 World Cup.
There are doubts about Mohamed Salah not starting against Australia.
Shehata said in statements on MBC Egypt: "If Mohamed Salah does not play against Australia due to his complaint of injury in the last training session, there are other players you can rely on."
He added: "Salah makes a difference compared to any player, but he may not start against Australia, so he should not be risked, and an alternative should be considered."
He continued: "Have you forgotten that there is another important player, Trezeguet, who should start against Australia regardless of Salah's situation? I feel that some are determined to keep Trezeguet out of the calculations in the World Cup."
He concluded: "I see Trezeguet as the most important player in the Egyptian national team even if Salah is playing, and we saw when he came on as a substitute in the New Zealand match and succeeded in scoring a goal."
