Saudi press reports on Saturday revealed details behind Al-Ittihad's decision to approve the departure of French winger Moussa Diaby during the current summer transfer window.
The Saudi newspaper "Okaz" reported that Al-Ittihad will receive a substantial financial sum, which is preferable to retaining him while paying his salary without his participation.
The source added that Diaby's behavior has changed since last January, specifically after the departure of his compatriot Karim Benzema, as the player became less serious and expressed his unwillingness to stay.
The source further stated that Diaby rejected amicable solutions; therefore, protecting the club's rights necessitates applying regulations that require him to complete his contract, or taking action by the club that would not entail future repercussions.
Diaby, 27, is now close to a permanent move to Bayer Leverkusen, having previously worn the German club's jersey from 2019 until 2023 before transferring to Aston Villa.
Diaby appeared in 73 matches for Al-Ittihad across all domestic and Asian competitions, scoring 11 goals and providing 33 assists.
Notably, press reports revealed that Diaby is in Germany to undergo medical examinations prior to the official signing.
