Manchester City announced the signing of the Argentine midfielder as the joint-most expensive player in Premier League history, alongside Liverpool striker Alexander Isak.

The new Manchester City player said via the club's website: "Enzo Maresca is a top-class coach; I trained with him at Chelsea, and those were wonderful moments. I learned a lot from him."

He added, "He is very much like Latin American people; he is extremely passionate. Therefore, for me, it is a pleasure to work with him."

He continued, "I am also grateful because he played a very important role in my arrival here. Thus, it is a pleasure to work alongside him and enjoy that."

He went on to say, "Honestly, we were both extremely eager for this to happen, because it wasn't easy for me to be here today."

He added, "But I know he also made a great effort, speaking to the club, and I am grateful he did so. It was long days, but in the end, I am here and very happy to join this club."

Regarding continuing the lineage of Argentine players at the club, he said: "Honestly, great Argentine players have passed through here and made history, such as Agüero, Otamendi, and the players I mentioned."

He continued, "Manchester City, not only in Argentina but around the world, is one of the biggest clubs globally. Everyone sees it that way."

He concluded, "Even more so in Argentina, because many players have come through here."

The Argentine explained his choice of shirt number 17 at Manchester City, stating it was the first number he wore with the Argentina national team.

This comes after Rodri's move to Barcelona, Tijjani Reijnders' departure to Al-Qadsiah in Saudi Arabia, while Tottenham Hotspur signed Savio and Omar Marmoush.

Fernández previously worked under Manchester City's new coach, Enzo Maresca, for 18 months during the Italian manager's tenure at Chelsea.

Fernández played 170 matches wearing the Chelsea shirt, scoring 31 goals and providing 30 assists.
