English club Manchester City announced the completion of the signing of Enzo Fernández, a Chelsea player, as part of strengthening their squad during the ongoing summer transfer window.
Manchester City revealed in the early hours of Wednesday morning that they had successfully completed the deal to sign Fernández, who has signed a contract extending for the next five seasons.
Under this contract, the 25-year-old Argentine international will remain at the Etihad Stadium, Manchester City's home ground, until the summer of 2031.
Manchester City stated in their announcement that Enzo possesses extensive experience at the highest levels, having won four major titles during his career in his homeland with both Defensa y Justicia and River Plate, before contributing to Benfica's victory in the Portuguese Prime League and becoming a key player in the Chelsea team that won the Europa Conference League and the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
Internationally, he won the 2022 FIFA World Cup and the 2024 Copa América with Argentina, before participating in this summer's World Cup final, where the Argentine national team lost to Spain in the final match by a single goal.
Fernández expressed his great happiness at completing this deal, which is considered the largest in the ongoing summer transfer market, with reports indicating its value reaches £125 million.
Enzo Fernández said: "Manchester City is the most successful club in England in recent times, and like every player, I wish to be part of such a club because everyone knows how efficient City's management is."
He added: "I am extremely happy to be here and ready to take on the challenge of helping City continue to win titles... This is a club built for success, and if you look at the team's lineup, you will find it has outstanding players in all positions... I want to learn from my new teammates and become a better player."
He continued: "I pride myself on continuously improving my performance... Everyone who has worked with me knows how serious I am in daily training and the effort I put into matches... I give my utmost, and I promise Manchester City that I will continue in this manner now after joining them."
