Emiliano Martínez said in post-match remarks quoted by England's Sky Sports network: "I spoke with my Chelsea legends, John Terry and Petr Čech. I know how historic this club is and what we aim to achieve this season. I came here to contribute to its development."

He added: "I spent seven wonderful years at Aston Villa. I came here to challenge myself and try to win the Premier League."

He continued: "I trained with the team for just one day. The players treated me extremely well over the past two days. I know the talent we have in attack; I am trying to strengthen our defense."

Regarding the victory over Brighton, he said: "I know it wasn't a perfect match, but ultimately, winning and advancing are what we need. We have 36 matches remaining."

He concluded: "When we push forward, we can hurt opposing teams. We had many chances to seal the match; Cole Palmer and João Pedro both had opportunities to decide the outcome."
