Liverpool legend Danny Murphy has come to the defense of Egypt international Omar Marmoush following the latter's disappointing start with Tottenham Hotspur, as he has yet to score a goal for the Spurs.
Omar Marmoush chose to leave Manchester City during the recent summer transfer window in search of regular playing time. The Egyptian international signed for Tottenham on a season-long loan, with a mandatory purchase clause for the Spurs worth £60 million plus add-ons.
However, Omar Marmoush has not yet delivered the expected performance level with Tottenham. The 27-year-old has not scored a goal and has faced significant criticism after Saturday's draw against Nottingham Forest in the English Premier League.
Omar Marmoush missed two clear chances to score across the first and second halves, which intensified the criticism against the player, but Murphy defended Marmoush.

Murphy said in comments on 'Match of the Day': "I don't think missing these chances will be a problem for Omar Marmoush in the long run. He is a truly exceptional player, but it seems he is genuinely eager to score goals, shoot at goal, and attack, to the point where he ignored passing to Mohamed Kudus in the second half and preferred to shoot."
He added: "Of course, Omar Marmoush saw Mohamed Kudus with Andy Robertson nearby. He is a top-class player, but Marmoush's thirst to help his team win led him to make the wrong decision at the wrong time, as he also missed a golden opportunity in the first half."
In a related context, Arsenal legend Paul Merson believes that Omar Marmoush should play in a slightly deeper position with Tottenham, rather than as a pure striker, stating: "I am a big fan of Conor Gallagher, but Omar Marmoush should be deployed in a slightly deeper position."
Tottenham is preparing to face Everton next Saturday, September 12, in a match against Everton, as part of the fourth round of the English Premier League.
