The Argentine newspaper "Olé" revealed a potential historical scenario for star Mohamed Salah, captain of the Egyptian national team, before facing Argentina in the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup.
The newspaper said that the Egyptian national team, after achieving its first victory in the knockout stages of the World Cup at the expense of Australia, enters the match against Argentina with great ambitions, relying mainly on its captain Mohamed Salah.
It pointed out that Salah has scored 68 goals with the Egyptian national team so far, making him just one goal away from equaling the record held by his current coach Hossam Hassan, the historical top scorer for the Pharaohs with 69 goals.
It added that Salah scoring a goal against Argentina would make him share the record with his coach, while scoring two goals would grant him the title of the historical top scorer for the Egyptian national team individually.
The newspaper noted that Salah participated in Egypt's matches during the current tournament, where he scored a goal against New Zealand, and provided decisive passes in the Pharaohs' path to the round of 16, before the anticipated match against Argentina.
The newspaper concluded by referring to statements by Alexis Mac Allister, former Liverpool player and Salah's teammate, who praised him, confirming his great gratitude for what he provided him inside and outside the field.
