Hani Abu Rida, President of the Egyptian Football Association, revealed that the support Egyptian sports receive from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi was one of the most prominent reasons for the successes achieved by Egyptian football in recent years.
The Egyptian national team bid farewell to the World Cup competitions from the round of 16 after losing to Argentina 3-2.
Abu Rida said at the Republican Presidency honoring ceremony for the Egyptian national team: "On behalf of the entire group, I thank Your Excellency for the support and backing, and for the warm reception today".
He continued: "It is enough to say that Egypt qualified for the World Cup four times, including twice during Your Excellency's tenure, which reflects the extent of interest and support that Egyptian football receives".
He concluded: "I thank our sons the players from the bottom of my heart, because they were at the highest level, and they were men, and they presented a tournament worthy of Egypt's name".
President El-Sisi received the Egyptian national team this morning at the presidential palace in Alamein to honor the Pharaohs after their return from the World Cup.
President El-Sisi also awarded the First-Class Sports Medal to all members of the Egyptian national team delegation in honor of them.
President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi also extended an invitation to the team to have lunch with him in honor of what they presented at the World Cup.
