American club Inter Miami announced that it has reached an agreement with Argentine Christian Keli Gonzalez to serve as the team's manager.
Keli takes over the role from Guillermo Hoyos, who will be leaving his position.
Inter Miami stated in a statement on its official website: "Gonzalez will officially begin his duties as soon as he obtains the necessary work permits."
The American club added: "Guillermo Hoyos will continue to lead the team temporarily until the arrival of the new manager and his coaching staff."
Inter Miami concluded: "Inter Miami Club would like to specifically commend Hoyos and thank him for his commitment and full dedication to the club, which was evident in his willingness to take on this role during this period that began last April."
Inter Miami lost its last match against Toronto FC 1-2 in the American league, leaving them with five consecutive matches without a win.
Gonzalez, 52 years old, played for Rosario Central, Italian club Inter, and Spanish clubs Valencia and Zaragoza during his career.
He also played 56 international matches for the Argentine national team between 1995 and 2005, where he was a teammate of Messi at the beginning of his career.
