Messi's former teammate... Inter Miami announces the signing of its new coach

American Inter Miami announced the appointment of a new coach to lead the team, following a decline in results during the recent period of the 2026-2027 season.

Inter Miami stated in its official website announcement: "Inter Miami announces that it has reached an agreement with Cristian Alberto 'Kily' González to coach the first team."

The statement added regarding one of Lionel Messi's former teammates on the Argentina national team: "Kily González will officially begin his duties after obtaining the necessary work permits."

The statement continued: "Gerardo Hoyos will continue to lead the team on an interim basis until the arrival of the new head coach and his coaching staff."

The statement concluded: "Inter Miami would like to specially commend Hoyos and express its gratitude for his commitment and complete dedication to the club, which was evident in his willingness to assume this responsibility during the recent period."

Inter Miami currently occupies second place in the MLS standings for the Eastern Conference group with 39 points, trailing Nashville by 10 points.

Inter Miami will face Montreal at home and aims to reverse the negative results under Lionel Messi's leadership, after suffering four defeats and drawing one match in their last five games.
