It seems Egypt has decided not to give Taranto much time before claiming its first medal, which came with Mohamed Hassan. Immediately afterward, Mahmoud Farag arrived to prove it was no coincidence, affirming that the Egyptian delegation did not come to the Mediterranean Games merely to participate, but rather to secure its place on the podiums early on.
Farag, a member of Egypt's Greco-Roman wrestling team, secured Egypt's second medal at the "Taranto 2026" Mediterranean Games after qualifying for the 60 kg final, following a decisive 9-1 victory by technical superiority over the Syrian champion.
What is remarkable is that both Egyptian medals so far have come from Greco-Roman wrestling, as if the mat champions decided to be the first to open Egypt's door in Taranto.

The Egyptian delegation is participating in 23 sports, including wrestling, athletics, fencing, swimming, weightlifting, judo, karate, rowing, shooting, table tennis, gymnastics, boxing, canoe, kayak, and others.
The games, held in their 20th edition in the Italian city of Taranto and continuing until September 3rd, did not leave Egypt waiting long; Mohamed Hassan opened the door, and Mahmoud Farag walked through the same door.
