Neymar, the captain of the Brazilian national team, announced his retirement from international play following the exit from the World Cup.
The Brazilian national team exited the World Cup in the round of 16 after losing to Norway 2-1.
Erling Haaland scored a brace for Norway, while Neymar scored Brazil's only goal.
Neymar told reporters after the loss: "I tried repeatedly, but my journey with the national team has ended."
He continued, "I started my career here and it ended here as well."
Neymar played his first international match with Brazil in 2010 against America at the same stadium.
The Brazilian national team exited the World Cup for the first time in the round of 16 since the 1990 edition.
Brazil's last 7 defeats in the knockout stages have come against European teams.
The Norwegian national team will meet the winner of the Mexico vs. England match in the quarter-finals next Sunday in Miami, USA.
For the first time, the Norwegian national team has qualified for the World Cup quarter-finals, with their previous best achievement being reaching the round of 16 in 1938 and 1998.
