Gordon said via his official Instagram account: "Completely devastated, I really thought this was our time to win after all these years of waiting, but that didn't happen, and this will hurt me for a long time."
He continued, "I have never wanted to win this much before, not just for the cup, but for everything we built as a group, and what it would have meant for England."
He added, "I loved every minute of representing this country at the World Cup, and creating memories that will stay with us for a long time."
He added, "Thank you to everyone who supported us on this journey, whether here in the United States or at home, it was wonderful to see this unity and celebrations."
He concluded, "Our day will come."
The England national team had an outstanding run in the World Cup, topping the final group with 7 points over Croatia, Ghana, and Panama.
