What does the Egypt national under-20 team need to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations?

Via Yallakora

Egypt's U20 national team, born in 2007, needs just one point from their final match against Algeria to officially secure qualification for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations U20 tournament in Ghana.

Egypt lost to Morocco by two goals without reply on Saturday evening, during the fourth round of the North African qualifiers, leaving them with 6 points from 3 matches.

Morocco raised their tally to 7 points, securing qualification for the Africa Cup of Nations, while Algeria sits in third place with 4 points, Tunisia is fourth with 3 points, and Libya is fifth with 1 point.

The qualifiers are played as a single round-robin league, with the top two teams advancing to the finals of the Africa Cup of Nations U20.

What does Egypt need?

Winning against Algeria

If Egypt beats Algeria, they will reach 9 points, guaranteeing official qualification for the Africa Cup of Nations regardless of the result of the Morocco vs. Libya match.

Drawing with Algeria

A draw is also sufficient for Egypt, as it would bring their total to 7 points, while Algeria would only reach 5 points.

This would ensure that Egypt finishes the qualifiers in at least second place, behind Morocco, who have already secured their spot.

Losing to Algeria

However, a loss would keep Egypt's tally at 6 points, while Algeria would rise to 7 points, meaning the Pharaohs would be eliminated from the qualification race, especially since Morocco has already guaranteed one of the qualifying spots.

Date of the Egypt vs. Algeria match

Egypt will conclude their campaign in the qualifiers by facing Algeria on Tuesday, October 6, in the fifth and final round, at the Suez Canal Authority Stadium.

In the same round, Morocco will play against Libya, while the Egypt-Algeria clash will be decisive in determining the holder of the second ticket to the Africa Cup of Nations, after Morocco has already officially qualified.

Standings before the final round

1- Morocco - 7 points.

2- Egypt - 6 points.

3- Algeria - 4 points.

4- Tunisia - 3 points.

5- Libya - 1 point.
