Spanish journalist Sergio Valentin revealed that the 30-year-old entering the final year of his contract, along with his outright refusal to consider an extension in pursuit of a new challenge, prompted City’s management to change strategy and agree to sell him at a lower price than expected, fearing he could leave for free.
