The Argentine Football Association issued an official statement in response to sanctions imposed by FIFA following incidents during the 2026 World Cup final, which the Tango dancers lost to Spain.
Argentina's national team lost the World Cup final to Spain by a single goal in a match marked by violent incidents after the final whistle.
Several Argentine players engaged in violent clashes with Spanish players, notably Leandro Paredes and Molina, prompting severe sanctions from FIFA.
FIFA issued an official statement on Friday announcing harsh penalties against Argentina, including suspensions and financial fines (read details here).
For its part, the Argentine Football Association stated in its official release: "In light of the notifications received and in defense of the rights of our association and players, our legal department will, in due course, request from FIFA a statement clarifying the reasons behind these reviewable decisions."
It added: "This is intended to file an appeal before the Appeals Committee of the global football governing body, while retaining the option of appealing to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) as a last resort."
The Argentine Football Association has ten days, starting today, to request the full decision from FIFA's Disciplinary Committee, after which it will be eligible to submit an appeal to the competent committee.
