Sports Ministry Investigates Disappearance of National Wrestling Team Player

The Ministry of Youth and Sports issued an official statement regarding the disappearance of Ziad Haggag, a wrestler on the Egyptian national team.

The Ministry of Sports stated that it is following up on the incident of player Ziad Haggag leaving the Egyptian delegation’s accommodation in Slovakia after the conclusion of his participation in the World Youth Wrestling Championship.

The Ministry immediately contacted the officials of the Egyptian Wrestling Federation and the head of the delegation, directing them to take all legal measures, conduct an investigation, and submit a detailed report on all circumstances and actions taken in this matter.

An official report was also filed regarding the incident, with an emphasis on the necessity of completing all legal procedures concerning the player and taking whatever is necessary in light of the investigation’s findings.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports confirmed that it has directed all sports federations to take the necessary legal measures and controls regarding all players participating in external sports delegations, from their departure until their return to the country. This includes the official declarations and commitments stipulated by the applicable regulatory rules. The delegation’s travel decision also included a commitment to return all members of the delegation to the country after the conclusion of the competitions, in accordance with the controls and decisions governing the travel of sports delegations.

In this regard, the Ministry noted that the guardian of player Ziad Haggag had signed a declaration assuming responsibility for the player’s return to Egypt before the delegation’s travel to Slovakia.

In this context, the Ministry directed that all details and documents related to the incident be provided to it to fully ascertain responsibilities, whether concerning the player or the organizational and administrative procedures of the delegation.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports emphasized that participation in national teams is an honor and a responsibility, and that it will not tolerate any breach of rules and regulations, holding any party accountable for proven negligence or violation, while simultaneously safeguarding the rights of players and taking actions in accordance with the law.
