A source from the Football Association revealed to FilGoal.com 5 names nominated to coach the Olympic team, as well as the nomination of 3 names to assume the position of technical director of the Football Association.
The Football Association will hold a meeting after the return of Hani Abu Rida, president of the Football Association, to settle the two positions.
The source explained that the three names nominated to assume the position of technical director of the Association are Shawky Gharib, Ayman Al-Ramadi, and Mohamed Abdel Azim "Azima".
The source indicated that Shawky Gharib is the closest to assuming the position.
The source also revealed that an idea was put forward within the corridors of the Association for Shawky Gharib to assume the position of technical director of the Olympic team due to his extensive experience.
However, the source linked the possibility of Shawky Gharib combining the two positions to the approval of the board members at the upcoming meeting.
Shawky Gharib previously worked as assistant coach of the Egypt national team alongside Hassan Shehata from November 2004 until June 2011.
He also led the Egypt national team for a year from November 2023 until 2024, and the Olympic team during the period from 2018 until 2021.
The youth team under the leadership of Shawky Gharib also won the bronze medal at the 2001 World Cup.
The Football Association also placed the name of Mohamed Shawky as the first option to coach the Olympic team.
The source mentioned that Mohamed Shawky's opinion will be sought first, given his contract with Zed Club.
The Football Association put forward the names of Motamed Gamal and Ayman Al-Ramadi, in addition to putting forward the name of Adel Mostafa due to his previous experience and his work alongside Rogerio Micale at the Paris Olympics.
The Egypt Olympic team finished fourth at the 2024 Paris Olympics before being led by Micale and his assistant Adel Mostafa.
The Olympic team, scheduled to be formed, is preparing for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
