Former Brazilian star Roberto Carlos responded to the widespread reports that he had converted to Islam after marrying Moroccan Suhaila Tahiri.

AAccording to reports published by the Turkish press, Carlos, who is 53 years old, converted to Islam about four weeks ago , after reciting the two testimonies of faith during a meeting with Sheikh Jihad Hamada, a prominent figure in the Brazilian Muslim community.

The spread of these claims was fueled by a post from Ali Sahin, a member of parliament for Turkey’s Justice and Development Party, who spoke about a meeting he had with several representatives of the Brazilian Muslim community.

Sahin stated on his “X” account two days ago that he met Sheikh Jihad Hamada, who resides in São Paulo, during a visit to the Brazilian Muslim Youth Charity Union. The Sheikh informed him that Carlos had been in contact with him for a long time before visiting him four weeks ago, reciting the two testimonies of faith, and choosing Islam.

However, Carlos broke his silence, emphasizing that the reports about his conversion to Islam are “inaccurate.”

The Real Madrid legend said in an interview with the Saudi newspaper “Okaz” today, Wednesday, “I have the utmost respect for Islam, and it is wonderful to see my wife praying, but the rumors circulating about my conversion to Islam are not true.”

Regarding his wedding ceremony, which fueled speculation about his conversion to Islam, he added, “The celebration was held in multiple formats. We made sure to hold ceremonies that aligned with the beliefs of our family members, who are Catholic, as well as other ceremonies suitable for my wife and her Muslim friends.”
