This comes after his standout performance in the 2026 World Cup finals with the Egyptian national team.

The report added that O'Neill, who is evaluating several options to bolster the midfield before the start of the new season, is very interested in the possibility of signing the Al-Ahly midfielder.

It is worth noting that Celtic won the Scottish League title last season and will participate in the UEFA Champions League next season.

The report indicated that Imam Ashour is not expected to extend his contract with Al-Ahly, given his desire to move to Europe.

The 28-year-old's contract with Al-Ahly expires in the summer of 2028.

The report stated that Coventry City has entered the race to sign the Egyptian international, amid personal interest from their manager Frank Lampard in acquiring him.

It is worth noting that Coventry City qualified for the English Premier League next season.

According to the report, signing Imam Ashour would cost around 4 million pounds sterling.

The former Ghazl El Mahalla and Zamalek player joined Al-Ahly in the summer of 2023, coming from Danish club Midtjylland.

Ashour scored two goals in the 2026 World Cup, the first against Belgium with a rocket shot, and the second against Australia with a powerful header.

The two goals were Imam Ashour's first international goals, having played 34 matches for the Pharaohs.
